The 2009 Non-Guild Competition

Published 2009-09-21

Winners for the Non-Guild Competition announced during the 2009 Knife-makers Guild Show.

This year the competition was hosted by Gawie and Thinus Herbst from Herbst Knife-making Academy.

There were 50 entries this year, all of exceptional standard. Almost 60% of these entries were knives made by students from the Herbst Knife-making Academy.

Marius Visser was the well-deserved winner of this completion with Iaan du Toit in the second place and Stephan Diedericks in the third place. Herbst Knife-making Academy is extremely proud of the fact that our students have dominated this competition the past 6 years.

We would like to thank the other sponsors for the prizes of this competition: Knife-makers Guild of South Africa, Bertie Rietveld, Zippit bags, Heavin Knives and Andre Thorburn.

Thank you for everyone who has entered. From the quality of these knives it was obvious that each entree holds a true passion for this art form. We are very excited about the next competition in 2011.
